OUGD501: Context Of Practice 2 - Studio Brief 2: Theory Into Practice Final Product
Evaluation:
In order to appropriately and effectively the themes of my essay which I produced in response to Studio Brief 1 of the Context of Practice module I decided to create a info-pack which targets and challenges the key themes of McDonaldization according to George Ritzer; Predictability, Efficiency and Calculability.
When producing my final outcome I was particularly inspired by how Kalle Lasn and other culture jammers have challenged consumerism in the past. Many culture jammers use the format of the McDonaldized corporations existing advertisements in order to create 'subvertisements' which would provoke a 'double take' by the audience.
Therefore I decided to create three 'subvertisements' which challenged the three key themes of McDonaldization that would then be packaged within the happy meal packaging from McDonalds.
Overall I am pleased with the final outcomes I have produced in response to this brief and the written element of the module, I found the subject matter I chose really interesting which I believe is reflected in the work I produced.
If I were to re-do the brief, I would perhaps improve the quality of the outcomes in order to give a more professional feel. I would also consider extending the range of outcomes I produced in response by perhaps also targeting other McDonaldized corporations I looked at for my essay such as Vistaprint and IKEA.
