Research for 'HOW TO...'

'How to understand the UK regional accents of people in our year on our Graphic Design course'

After identifying a problem specific to Students in Leeds, studying Graphic Design at Leeds College of Art, we were required - in groups - to solve the problem in an engaging and interesting way.
To do this we were considered the intended audience, what they needed to know and how we were going to tell them and the tone of voice.

As part of the research process, we used web articles and polls to identify the most popular and the most difficult to understand accents. From this information we where then able to select which accents we would include in our final designs.

We also brainstormed within our group the common stereotypes of people from each of these regions e.g. Scousers, Geordies which we would then include within our illustrations. We felt this would be effective as it would appeal to the target audience and help them identify with the illustrations. This concept is also appropriate for the 'tongue and cheek' tone of voice we chose.
